The Homeless Endeavor, founded in 2022 by its president, Qasim Butt, is a 501C3 charitable organization. It was created to help people in need throughout the Greater Washington Community. The non-profit organization’s primary goal is to distribute food and clothing to families in need and to support financially limited students who desire higher education by awarding scholarships.  These accomplishments can be achieved by the endowment of the Butt family and through the support of all those who can help.

Qasim immigrated to the U.S. with his family in 1986 at the age of 14.  His father, Akram Butt, worked with the U. S. Department of State for many years and was offered sponsorship for U.S. citizenship. U.S. Army Brigadier General Ivey sponsored the family from Pakistan where they settled in Alexandria, Virginia.

Akram worked hard to establish his family’s life here in America. Once settled he gave back to his community by helping establish the AMAA Muslim Cemetery, a non-profit organization. The cemetery’s vision is to provide low-cost burial and funeral services to Muslims living in Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Since his death, the organization has helped many Muslim families in the community with proper and dignified funerals and burials of their loved ones.

Qasim Butt made his way by working hard to provide for and support his wife and four children in Northern Virginia. Through business success and failure as an independent businessman Qasim fought to overcome life’s obstacles and barriers, surviving to make ends meet and thriving to follow in his father’s footsteps of giving back to the community that made it all possible.

Over the years, he worked in a real estate company which ultimately left due to the crash of 2007-08. He picked himself up and created a private limousine service which succeeded for more than 9 years until the toll from ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft affected his business in a big way. He returned to school and earned a degree, all while training and forming a private detective agency and security patrol company he currently operates.

He graduated from Thomas Edison H.S. in Alexandria, VA, in 1992 and, at long last, graduated from the University of Phoenix in 2022 with Honors.  He was also accepted into the Honor Society of Criminal Justice.

It was Qasim’s dream to help needy people in a big way, as he has done on a smaller scale his whole life and as his father Akram taught him through his actions. So, through this dream, The Homeless Endeavor was established and is to be a force in helping individuals and families in their time of need, and through the support of those in position to help this non-profit organization make a big difference in the lives of others.
